Relief India Trust Alleviates Child Abuse and Exploitation

In the world over and India in particular, large numbers of people live below the poverty line. This makes many desperate to make ends meet and in turn giving greedy and heartless individuals a chance to exploit the needy. The sad reality is that children are the victims of this inhuman treatment.
Relief India Trust has over the time compiled facts about this reality. For instance 17 million children are employed in child labor with 80% of these children in the metropolis of India. 25% of victims of commercial sex exploitation victims are under the age of 18 years. A majority of the child labor is in the agricultural sectors. Young girls are exploited sexually, a big number enrolled in sex cartels. Many die in this practice due to abuse, infection and even murder.
These are the sad realities that prompted the Relief India Trust organization to involve itself in the fight against child labor, abuse and sexual exploitation.

Child abuse

Children are abused in many ways and in various settings in the society. In their very homes they come from and by the very people that are supposed to protect them, at school by the teachers that are supposed to nurture them and intra-child abuse by their peers. To curb this trend, Relief India Trust has put in place programs that help in creating awareness in the society. People are educated on the importance of children and their place in the society. Children in abusive environments are taken to safe houses and children's home to make sure they are safe from sex pests and exploiters. Child labor is reduced when families are able to fend for themselves as children won't be required to chip in to the family budget.

Protecting the girl child

Relief India Trust in partnership with other nonprofit making organization and the government of India have done a lot to protect the girl child against an increasingly abusive society. Girls are given sex education to make them aware of the dangers of indulging in premarital sex, they are also made aware of behavior that is abusive and where to report in case of such scenarios. They are put in schools and homes away from the risky environments. The government has done a lot to create laws to make sure that the girl child is cushioned against exploitation.
Rolling out of sanitary pads has played a role in building the confidence of adolescent girls who require them but can't afford. In doing this, more girls are able to consistently go to school and also have a competitive edge in sports and academics.
Girls who have already been abused are enrolled in special rehabilitation centers. There the organization is able to offer them treatment in case of infections or otherwise. Counseling and guidance is also given to these girls as virtue is imparted to them.
Both male and female children may be abused if left alone in the world. By the availability of social workers in these environments, these cases are significantly reduced. Relief India Trust has been in the fore front in making sure that the social workers are available where they are most needed, to give that watchful eye, a listening ear, and a caring heart to children.
