Part of the name of this organization is “trust”. Trust is something
that the Relief India Trust strives to establish among those with whom
they work. They provide reliable social services to the needy in the
areas in which they work. By ascertaining their dependability through a
continuous distribution of care and services, community members, young
and old alike, are more willing to work with them to receive the
assistance they desperately need.
Relief India Trust builds a sense of community among the children, especially those who are disabled, by continuously doing activities with them. One fun activity that the organization provides for disabled children is arts and crafts. The organization gives materials for the children to work with, and helps them to develop their artistic and dexterity skills through drawing, painting, and paper crafting. Once a month they even hold an art competition in a rehabilitation center so children can show off their creativity; it also gives the children something to work hard for.
The organization also takes time to make every child feel special. Every month they make the effort to celebrate each poor, disabled child’s birthday. They bring a birthday cake to the celebration, take pictures, and have a good time. Thus creating more of a feeling of community, by doing a group activity which incorporates friends and family, and further help each child feel comfortable with the organization.
Relief India Trust also does activities with the children that they would otherwise likely not have the chance to do. On one occasion the organization gathered the children and brought them to the National Science Museum. They gave the children an educational experience while showing them a world outside of their own. Exposure to educational activities promotes learning and encourages the children to continue with schooling.
Health checkup camps for the poor are another way to encourage children to come and be involved with the organization. During the camp they coordinate with local physicians to run the event. The doctors speak with both the parent and the child, and talk about what kind of medical attention they should seek. They also give the patients referrals to hospitals so that they can have medical treatment for any afflictions.
There are also check up camps for physically and mentally disabled children. The physicians educate those who come from poverty-stricken areas, and give them information on health services. Often those living without some basic needs will also lack knowledge of their options. The doctors guide the children in their development by providing free medical services at The organization’s facility.
The key to gaining the trust of children, as well as their parents, is consistency. The Relief India Trust does regular monthly activities through hobbies, parties, trips, and medical attention, which promote the physical as well as mental well being of all children. They help the children to develop a feeling of self-worth, and camaraderie among others within the community, a mind for education and an eye for art, and further establish the trust the local communities have in them
