Improving Quality of Life with Relief India Trust

Level of education directly correlates with quality of life and access to resources in many instances. Those with very little education in India are typically those who live in need or poverty. They are also those who suffer the most because of their lack of knowledge of services and treatments. The Relief India Trust provides aid through education in order to help create sustainable livelihoods.

One of the big contributions that Relief India Trust makes in terms of education is through health education. Parents who bring their children for the organization’s free medical check-up camps are counseled by a physician. The resident doctors of the organization make the parents aware of their medical treatment options. They also tell the parents where they can go to help their child or themselves – the doctors can write referrals to larger medical facilities as well.

The organization’s doctors will also give information about common modern afflictions – specifically cancer, HIV, AIDS, Thalassemia, and other health problems. The panel of doctors helps to abolish any misconceptions about physical ailments and teach individuals how to properly deal with them. They can also teach parents and children through occupational therapy, and help them to learn what types of exercises will help improve their child’s condition.

Education is also promoted through the arts. Once a month the children are encouraged to participate in activities that promote creativity and hand-eye coordination. The volunteers at the Relief India Trust give the children arts and crafts supplies, show them how to use them, and let their minds explore the artistic opportunity before them. They are allowed to work with a number of mediums, such as paper and glue, paint, pencils, crayons, and others. They are also encouraged to take part in the monthly art competition. This type of mental stimulation helps to improve or sustain mental sharpness and development; children also gain a sense of pride in their accomplishments and realize they can be successful if they try hard.

The Relief India Trust does not just bring the education to the children; sometimes they bring the children to the education. One such occasion the children were brought to the education was when the organization brought a group of children to the National Science Museum. There they explored natural science and higher levels of thinking in all its forms. This activity promoted learning and socializing, giving them the chance to think outside of the box and have fun; they saw that individuals who study hard can discover great things, like those found in the museum.

Sustainability of well being becomes possible when individuals are more educated. By understanding more about the options they have, parents learn how to properly care for their children and themselves. When they learn to seek out the help they have learned about through Relief India Trust, they spare their family any unnecessary time living in discomfort. When the children are allowed to explore the world outside of their community, they are exposed to different ideas, views, and discoveries; they develop an understanding of the value of education, and are compelled to strive to do well in life.
